12 Jan The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord
Today the heavens are opened,
the waters of the sea are made sweet,
earth is glad,
the mountains and hills rejoice,
because Christ is baptised in the Jordan by John.
Todays beautiful feast marks the end of the Christmas season. We pray it has been a blessed time for you and all your loved ones. Our Novitiate Sisters have produced an ever evolving crib scene throughout these festive days. They are a very artistic group with great imaginations. Ordinary time begins on Monday, our decorations will be taken down and we will return to ‘normality’. We had an unusual visitor yesterday, sitting on the fence that surrounds the garden guest house. It was a grey blue heron. For all his beauty and the joy of capturing his antics with the crows it was sad to see the gold fish gone from the pond. These were no ordinary fish. We had taken them from the pond of Golders Green Carmel when they closed a few years ago. They were pretty old, that is the fish, not the sisters! Thankfully we have an inner courtyard with a pond and some original fish from Golders green safe from predators. I hope to launch a video soon on youtube with scenes from the monastery garden. Stay tuned. Meanwhile here is a photo of the amazing culprit.
