Grenfell Tower update

Following our last post concerning the terrible Grenfell Tower fire we would like to share with you a message we have received from one of our local priests.
As I returned from a funeral at Kensal Green, I stopped off at Sainsbury’s to shop and from the car park I could see Carmel with Grenfell Tower behind it – for me it was a powerfully moving symbol – a living icon of the vital role of contemplatives at the heart of our city with all its suffering and need. Thank you for being there.
We, in our turn, are aware of the selfless ministry of our priests, day after day, in the aftermath of the fire, supporting residents, firemen, the injured in hospital and their families, and all who were affected by the tragedy. Finally, they gathered in prayer before the burnt out shell that still held the remains of so many victims and sprinkled the ruin with holy water, commending to God the souls of those who had died there.
Only yesterday, we received a request for prayer from our local undertakers as they begin to conduct the funerals, sometimes of several members of the same family, amid so much pain and bewilderment. We ask you to remember them with us, together with all those survivors who still live in very difficult circumstances until they can move into their permanent homes and begin to rebuild their shattered lives.
