Grenfell Tower Fire

Grenfell Tower Fire

Like the rest of our neighbourhood, we have been deeply affected by the terrible fire at Grenfell Tower, not least because the fearsome blaze was clearly visible from our monastery and the black smoke poured across our garden throughout the following day.
We are holding in our prayer all who have been affected by this tragedy: the injured and the bereaved, those who have lost everything, those still searching for loved ones, hoping against hope, and those, unnumbered as yet, who have lost life itself.
Today the 17th June Cardinal Vincent presided over a morning of prayer in our parish church, culminating in Mass at which we were represented by our extern sister, Sr Patricia. Near the altar were placed stones that had previously been brought over to Carmel to be blessed, representing the 24 storeys in the tower block and the 120 flats and all the people that they had held, some of whom were present in the packed church.
Tomorrow, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all day and during Adoration we will be bringing to the Lord all the pain and sorrow and unforgettable anguish of all those involved in any way in this sad disaster. May God, who is ever present to His people, bring peace and consolation to all hearts.
