WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

Today we learn of the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. In Duccios’s painting he is marked out in the huddled group by the five arches that converge above his head, “like five fingers of accusation” as one commentator puts it.
It is an ugly scene of greed and conspiracy, and the sorrow of the unfolding events of Christ’s passion begins to descend upon us.
