SOLEMNITY OF OUR HOLY MOTHER ST TERESA OF JESUS

SOLEMNITY OF OUR HOLY MOTHER ST TERESA OF JESUS

The whole Carmelite Order is currently preparing for the fifth centenary of the birth of St Teresa of Avila in 2015. The most important element in the preparation is the re-reading of her writings, the focus this year being on The Interior Castle, her most systematic teaching on prayer.
St Teresa’s writings on prayer are simple and profound. She says that true prayer consists in simply looking at God, not in thinking much but in loving much. She suggests taking an episode from the Gospel and being present to Our Lord in that scene. She herself liked to look upon Our Lord in his agony in the garden of Gethsemane, believing that, since he was alone he would be pleased to have her company. To meditate on the mystery of Christ in this way is a living experience, since his whole life is eternally present to us.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Holy Mother and we wish to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy feast day. We shall be celebrating with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from after mass till 3pm. We shall hold you all in prayer.
