19 Aug August News
Two women have spent time with us this month, considering a possible
vocation to our community. We keep them in our prayer as they continue to
discern God’s desire for them.
August also brings the start of the apple harvest, but our orchard, like so
many others in the south-east of England, attracted a flock of parakeets.
They had soon stripped four apple trees of our earliest variety, Worcester
Pearmain, and when they started to devour the James Grieves something had to be done. Our first attempts to deter the parakeets were ineffective, then one sister had an inspiration – scarecrows! She quickly created some rather alarming ones which now stand guard around the orchard, and not another apple has been touched. Other troubled orchard keepers might like the tip.
