01 Dec Advent 2013
We move into the lovely season of Advent encouraged and uplifted by the apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis,
Evangelii Gaudium, heightening our awareness of the joy of the Gospel. Mounting joy is the theme of Advent as we anticipate the coming of the Saviour, and we will meet again in the liturgy the scripture texts that Pope Francis offers us: “Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth!” and “Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion!… Lo, your king comes to you.” And as we reach the final week of Advent we will hear Gabriel greeting Mary, “Rejoice, most highly favoured one!”
We wish all our visitors a time of joyful waiting for the promised One. In Carmel, it is a silent joy as we withdraw from contact by letter, visit or email, fortunate to be able to hold off the commercial advance of Christmas and remain immersed in Advent until “the time” of His coming.
