Tuesday of Holy Week
In today’s Gospel (John 13:21-23, 36-38), Jesus foretells his betrayal. The famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci depicts the consternation of the apostles at the announcement. We too, want to protest with them, as Matthew’s account has it, “Not I, Lord, surely?” Yet we know that we often betray the love he offers us so trustfully and at such a price.
