Today we have another great Carmelite celebration as our sister, Elizabeth of theTrinity, is declared a saint.
Elizabeth Catez was a young French Carmelite, was born on July 18th 1880. She entered Carmel at the age of twenty-one and died five years later of an extremely painful illness. A brilliant pianist, she had a fiery artistic temperament, but after a stormy childhood she learned to master her sensitive, passionate nature. Her spirituality centred on the presence of God dwelling in her, drawing her to the practice of interior silence so as to remain with Him ‘within’. Through her letters she encouraged others along that spiritual path. You can hear some extracts from those letters in our series of podcasts under the title Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity.
