HOLY SOULS – Day 5

HOLY SOULS – Day 5

Sister Mary of Trust – Sarah Ann Jeffrey – was born in Fivemiletown, Co. Tyrone, Ireland, on March 26th 1911, the eldest of six children. Although considered so delicate that her Mother feared that she would not be able to rear her, Sarah actually outlived all her brothers and sisters. Her Mother died when she was quite young and the family moved to Scotland. She was a convert. She had a strong and independant character, which enabled her to follow her conscience into the Church when she was only about 18, even though her Protestant Father turned her out of the house for doing so. She entered  the Carmel in Edinburgh where she fulfilled many duties. She was elected Prioress in 1981 and it was to her that the delicate task of recognising God’s will for the closure of the Carmel. This was completed in 1983.  Sister came to Notting Hill Carmel in October of that same year and all were extremely edified at the way she adapted to her new surroundings.  She was always very much “alive”, and both interested and interesting. Just after midnight, on Monday July 10th, with the sisters praying around her bed, she gently went to God. She was 63 years professed.
