Preparing to wait.
In this first week of Advent, the Church reminds us that Christ’s first coming to earth as a new-born child, once upon a time, is the pledge that he will come again in glory when time ends. And the liturgy teaches us how we are to wait for his coming. Isaiah gives us words of eager longing: “Oh, that you would tear the heavens open and come down!” Jesus, in the Gospel, exhorts us to, “Stay awake”. If we wait with eagerness and watchfulness we will be ready for Christ in all the many ways he enters our daily lives.
